Natural Birth Process:
Natural birth or vaginal birth refers to giving birth through the vaginal route with the normal course of pregnancy. This process begins with uterine contractions and continues with the dilation of the cervix. The advantages of natural birth include a rapid post-birth recovery process, low risk of infection, and stimulation of the respiratory system as the baby passes through the birth canal. However, complications may develop in natural birth in some cases. Situations such as the baby’s position, the pelvic structure of the expectant mother, or slow progress of labor may necessitate a cesarean section.
Cesarean Operation:
Cesarean birth is the surgical removal of the baby and placenta when passage through the birth canal is not possible or poses a risk. A cesarean can be performed under general or regional anesthesia. The most common reasons for cesarean include incorrect positioning of the baby, narrow birth canal, the expectant mother’s health condition preventing natural birth, or having had a previous cesarean section. As cesarean birth is a surgical procedure, the recovery process may be longer compared to vaginal birth and may carry a risk of infection.
Choosing the Birth Method
Both birth methods can be safe for expectant mothers who have had a healthy pregnancy and received appropriate medical evaluation. However, the choice of birth method should be determined considering the doctor’s recommendation and the health status of the mother and baby. During the birth process, correct medical intervention and professional support are critical for protecting the health of mother and baby.
